Today is a sad today. But also one of great joy. Today, we are moving the Jimoke blog away from Blogger to the new site, Wordpress.

We have had a great 13 months on Blogger, but it seems as if our time is up now.

Other than a new web address, and new, and better (as I mind you), site to work with, our content will still be the same. I am still running the blog. Nothing else is changing!

Up way too early

Tomorrow morning, the Jimokes--and the players--will be up WAY TOO early.

Because it's a bye week, the team is practicing early on Friday morning. This way, coaches will be able to go out and recruit, while the players and rest of the staff members will have the majority of the weekend off.

While it will be nice to have the majority of Friday off, we will be up early! That's for sure.

Tomorrow's practice is set for 6:30am, meaning the Jimokes will arrive at Heritage Hall at 5:45am. It will be fun!!

Jimokes enjoying the bye week

There is no doubt the Jimokes are enjoying this week's bye week! For half of us, we haven't had a break since before Fall Camp started.

It's been two months of busy football. While this week will still consist of the weekly practice schedule, we will have ONE change.

Both Saturday and Sunday will be off-days for the Trojans. Meaning the Jimokes won't have to put in a 12-hour day!

We will be using that time for numerous things: catch up on sleep, catch up on school work, watching college football, and spending time with friends and family. (During football season, it's tough to do everything!!)

After the bye week, of course, is yet another "Championship" game for the Trojans. In the historic city of South Bend, against Notre Dame! We're already getting pumped for the tradition there!

Day-Off Monday

Today, because we have a bye week this week, was a day off for the Jimokes.

The players were still in meetings today, as well as all the coaches in the offices. But with no practice today, the Jimokes were free!!

It was a great day to have off. But it's certainly weird. I'm typing this write now at 4:30pm. During this whole school year, I have been busy at this time on the weekdays. I'm--and the rest of us--are not really quite sure what to do with the afternoon hours off.

A wonderful trip

It was yet another great road trip for the Trojans!

Staying at an excellent hotel and witnessing that great game, it was truly awesome!!

While four Jimokes are departing with the team later this afternoon, some of us are getting a head start!

Eric Ziskin, Eloy Ledesma, and myself are being driven up to Berkeley under the SAFE driving of Brent Cochran.

We are very excited to "road-trip" it up. We will arrive in Berkeley a little after the team tonight and will either meet up with the other Jimokes at the stadium for preliminary set-up or at the hotel.

El Cholo tonight

The Jimokes are getting a little reward tonight.

After a couple months of non-stop action--and non-stop work--our head equipment manager is treating us to a dinner.

Following practice tonight, instead of going to our regular Galen Dining Hall, we will be going to El Cholo for a Mexican feast!

We are so happy--and so thankful! It's been a while since I've had a nice Mexican feast, that's for sure!

Prayers for Stafon Johnson

In a very tragic incident this morning, Stafon Johnson required throat surgery this afteroon. After a heavy dumbbell used for bench-pressing slipped out of Johnson's grasp, it landed on his throat.

He was immediately cared for and rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent a 7-hour surgery.

Please keep No. 13 in your prayers.

Doctors are simply hoping he can regain his speech capabilities in the nearing months.

Another Win!

Last night was another big win for the Trojans, as they won 27-6 over Washington St.

It was a great night to be back in the Coli, and to win a game under the lights is pretty special. Everyone, including players, coaches, and staff were stressing that all week!

Next week is Cal. All of our attention is now towards the Golden Bears!

Game Day Today!

Well, after a three-week absence, the Trojans are finally back in the Coliseum! Tonight's 7:15 game against Washington St. is an important one, nonetheless.

On the rebound, the Trojans are hoping to perform perfectly--and make as few errors as possible.

We will be doing our best, and are certainly excited to be back on our home turf.

We are set to arrive at the Coliseum around 1:00pm later this afternoon to begin our game day preparations. The locker room will be all set, and we are all thrilled to once again see our home locker room! (It's been a while since we last were here...)

The Day Before

Today is The Day Before. That is before game-day, of course!

Today is a great day to be a Jimoke! The atmosphere around Heritage Hall is always exhilarating, as fans flock the center of USC Football on campus.

We are about to begin loading the equipment truck, as a few of the Jimokes will be out on the field for the walk-thru.

Later tonight, the team will head to their team hotel for the night--and the majority of tomorrow--leading up to their arrival at the Coliseum tomorrow evening, which is set for about 5:20.

Tired Jimokes

I wanted to get this video out before it gets too late. During Fall Camp, everyone associated with the football team here gets exhausted. Practice after practice in the hot August heat can be exhausting.

For the Jimokes, we would usually have an hour or so of downtime in between duties of the two practices.

Here is a quick video taken from Head Manager Adam Kossoff in the middle of August. He walked into our locker room and was much surprised to see the squad completely knocked out!

Helmets!

Tonight is the weekly Helmet night for the Jimokes.

After another nearly 100-degree day on the practice field, the Jimokes will spend an extra hour or two cleaning and polishing the helmets in part of our preparations for game day!

Tonight is just another weekly activity that we take part in! And while it may seem boring and repetitive, it's a time where we get to really spend some great time with each other while watching some college football and/or listening to some tunes.

We really enjoy helmet night!

After the rough upset this past weekend, the Jimokes return to Heritage Hall this afternoon.

Luckily, since we are finally back home, Monday isn't spent on Cromwell. We get to be on Howard Jones today, allowing us to forgo transporting all the equipment next door.

The week to build up after a loss begins today. Let's get after it!

That Was a Rough One

The Jimokes are back in Los Angeles after a rough trip to Washington.

Some of us--who traveled separately from the team--arrived in Seattle some four or five hours before the team arrived on Friday afternoon. That gave us a chance to tour the campus of the University of Washington, which was absolutely breathtaking.

We really enjoyed the campus and its many sightseeing opportunities.

Apart from that aspect, the trip was unpleasant. A frustrating game, indeed.

But one other good thing came about for the Jimokes: We performed spectacularly in our Jimoke duties. The locker room was stunning, the helmets shining as ever, our equipment was in full force, and the game balls stayed as dry as an Arizona desert, although rain was trickling down on Husky Stadium.

It is comforting to know we didn't contribute to the mishaps on the field.

Hopefully we can continue our work and the Trojans will bounce back come Saturday. Back at the Coliseum!

Helmets Tonight, Awaiting Seattle!

The Jimokes welcome back tonight as the weekly "Helmet Night," after last week's long trip to Columbus forced us to do them on Wednesday night.

Again, it is our full intent to make sure the helmets look as "poppin" as ever. For those of you who watched the USC-Ohio State game last week on television, how did the helmets look? We always love hearing how they were, so we can improve for the next week or maintain an exceptional job.

Tomorrow, the Trojans will be on their way to Washington with a 2:15pm flight. Aside from the four Jimokes that will be traveling with the team, there a few more making their way up there!

Brent Cochran, Eloy Ledesma, Eric Ziskin, and myself are all leaving campus in the early morning to arrive in Washington by noon. We will meet up with the team and traveling Jimokes upon their arrival, including the Friday evening walk-thru.

The other four Jimokes will appreciate our help. It will make for more availability to coaches during the game, and a quicker and more efficient locker room set-up.

Equipment Truck On Its Way

This morning, some of the Jimokes checked in for duty at Heritage Hall a little earlier than usual. Now that we are in conference play, the away games are much closer to USC's campus.

Because of the close proximity, instead of loading all the equipment trunks on the plane--requiring some extra hassle, we have sent the equipment truck on the road already.

This morning, half of the Jimokes loaded the truck with most of the trunks, and then the two drivers were off. After a 24-hour trip, they will arrive in Washington, where they will meet two assistant equipment managers, Tre Limbrick and Seth Svendsen.

And upon our arrival on Friday afternoon, the equipment trunks will be in Washington's visiting locker room. As Jimokes, we love this!

The game was insane. The atmosphere was electric. The game had the perfect ending.

The Drive--as it is now called--will be etched into the rich history that is USC.

With a stadium rocking for 59 total minutes without sitting down, being on the sidelines was exhilarating. And that last minute of silence in The Horseshoe was the most gratifying.

The fly back home was a lot more fun after the sweet victory. It was the most nerve-racking game I have ever been a part of, and with the late surge, it just made the victory that much sweeter!

Epic Trip to Columbus

Wow.

That is all I have to say after that amazing game at The 'Shoe! A tough game to play--and the most intense atmosphere I have been involved with in my life.

I didn't get to bed until 7:15 this morning after a flight back to Los Angeles just two hours after the game, but it was all worth it.

I will post some Jimoke recap of the game, including some unbelievable pictures.

Ohio Stadium is a beautiful place to play a football game. And the Trojans and Jimokes enjoyed it whole heartily.

We Have Arrived!

The Trojans have touched down on Columbus turf and are now sleeping in their hotel.

It is about 4:45am EST, but I am still on West Coast time, and just a little amped for this trip. We have a busy day tomorrow, but it won't start until around 11am. That still leaves us with a few hours of sleep. We should be good to go tomorrow!

Tomorrow, we will spend time setting up the locker room and preparing the stadium for Saturday's prime-time game.

The anxiety is really building up.

After last night's helmet cleaning and truck loading, the Jimokes are getting ready for Ohio State. We are just a few hours away from a Thursday practice. Immediately following, the Jimokes will load the truck with the players' bags and depart for LAX. Are expected arrival in Ohio is 1am.

Awaiting Columbus

The Trojans--and Jimokes--will be departing Los Angeles tomorrow afternoon for their highly anticipated arrival in Columbus, Ohio.

USC-Ohio St. is just days away, and the anticipation is building around Heritage Hall.

Because it is a non-conference game, and the Trojans are traveling an unusually long distance, we are leaving an extra day early. That being said, the whole practice schedule is quirked.

Monday was a usual "Tell the Truth Monday" practice, as was yesterday's "Competition Tuesday." Today will also remain the same with "Turnover Wednesday."

However, for us Jimokes, our weekly schedule is moved up one day. After tonight's two-hour practice, we will polish up the helmets in preparation for Saturday night's game. While we usually do this on Thursday for home and conference road games, Wednesday seems eerily early. Because the sky will be dark, and the lights will be shining, the helmets need to be extra perfect, if that makes sense. We will make that happen!

Tomorrow's practice will be moved up to 2:30pm, and immediately following the practice, the Trojans will depart for Ohio. We are expected to arrive in Ohio at 1am on Friday morning.

On Cromwell

To get acquainted with Ohio Stadium's field turf, the Trojans will be practicing on Cromwell Field, the track and field stadium adjacent to Howard Jones.

This will require the Jimokes to get an early start on set-up, as we have to transfer all the equipment over to the new field.

Practice is set for 5pm tonight.

USC Upends San Jose St.

The Trojans won their first game pretty easily. After a slow start, the Trojan horse prevailed, with a final score of 56-3.

And the Jimokes had a blast!

With seven young Jimokes, and one less returner, the set-up and game-time work was definitely going to be different. But we pulled it off!

And it was a moment we will all remember!

The locker room was beautiful when the players arrived. The jerseys were tight on the shoulder pads. And the helmets were popping with excitement.

The Jimokes just got finished with the season-opener! A 56-3 victory over San Jose St. gives the Trojans momentum coming into next week's battle against Ohio State.

Jimokes Minus One

The Jimokes will be down a man tomorrow. Although we usually have a full-man crew, Senior Jimoke Brent Cochran will not be with us.

Due to a prior engagement--a wedding for a very good friend--Brent will be absent for the Trojan's season opener.

"I'm frustrated mostly because it's ending my 16-consecutive USC games streak that I have worked so hard for, and it puts me way behind for "Jimoke of the Year!"

Brent is sad to be gone, but is with us in spirit. He is wearing last year's Rose Bowl ring during the game/wedding, so we know Brent will be with us.

Truck Loading

Part of the Friday routine for Jimokes includes loading the equipment truck.

The equipment truck holds all the players' equipment bags (shoulder pads, helmets, cleats, and pads), miscellaneous trunks, and any other important fixture to USC game-days. It's just another very important process that we are involved in.

Each new season brings in new high-class players. And each new season brings in a new equipment truck--decorated with those players.

Guys like Taylor Mays, Kristofer O'Dowd, Josh Pinkard, Jeff Byers, and Joe McKnight are part of the feature this season.

I have included some pictures from tonight's truck loading, which is quite exciting. With the Trojan Marching Band playing in the background and fans coming in from all over the area, the atmosphere is nearly game-like.

Jimokes Are Ready

At this point of the season, we are just about 15 hours from kickoff. It's been long, tireless, and repetitive at times.

But we are here at last. Head Manager Adam Kossoff and Jarone Ashkenazi are at the hotel with the team tonight, witnessing the team meetings, meals, and everything leading up to game time tomorrow. It's a magical experience.

For the rest of us, we have the night off.

The Jimokes will arrive at the Coliseum at about 6:30 tomorrow morning, to prepare for the Trojans' arrival. We will make sure the locker room is set-up in perfect condition, and nothing is left undone. We are perfectionists.

We are exactly 15 hours removed until kickoff. Unbelievable.

Return of the Gum Challenge

As shown during last season, the Jimokes have a special Friday tradition.

The "newcomer" Jimokes participate in a massive gum challenge that pits one against another. (Usually an offensive Jimoke versus a defensive Jimoke)

After this afternoon's walk-thru with the team, we will have that little contest. It will be the first of the regular season.

What a Night!

As mentioned in one of yesterday's posts, the Jimokes spent some time decorating the helmets for tomorrow's game!

Because we do such a meticulous job with everything, the process was long. We finally finished at around 11:15pm. It was a long process, like we expected, but it will all pay off when those helmets will be glowing come Saturday!

Big Night Tonight

The Jimokes have a huge night in store for tonight.

During the season, every Thursday night, the Jimokes polish all the players' helmets; getting them ready for Saturday's big game! But tonight has a much different twist.

Since we are approaching the first game of the season, the tradition-famed Trojan decals are going to be placed on the helmets.

For the past eight months, during spring and fall camps, the helmets have been, to be honest, bare. With no decal, the helmets only give out a cardinal color look.

Although a tireless job, and one that takes hours to complete, the Jimokes are very excited for the process tonight! It's a part of USC Football and a tradition that is so rich.

I will post pictures of the process, and what they look like after we are done with them, tomorrow.

Hot Hot Heat

The Jimokes have been battling the heat these past few days.

As the wilfdfires in California have torn up homes, destroyed fields, and caused anguish among famileis, it has also gravely affected the weather.

For the mock game on Saturday, temperatures rose to an unbearable 100-degrees! That's hot for Los Angeles. The heat continued to wage down on us on Sunday and onto Monday, while Tuesday had an interesting effect.

The dark clouds caused from the fire began making there way towards the USC campus, and right above Howard Jones field. This created muggy, dry, and humid conditions for the duration of the day. It felt like Minnesota weather in the summer, sans the mosquitoes.

After spending upwards of four-and-a-half hours on the field yesterday, I felt overheated all night. It was rough.

The temperatures plan to stay in the low-90s today and tomorrow, while going down to a cool 84 for Saturday's kickoff.

3 days to San Jose State!

The players are starting to feel it. The coaches are starting to feel it.

And the Jimokes are starting to feel it. Heritage Hall has an aura about it that gleams off the fact that it's game-week. After eight months of offseason workouts, spring ball, summer workouts, and fall camp, the Trojans are just three days away from playing their first game of the 2009 season! In the Coliseum!

With two practices and walk-thru left, the anticipation is running through me and the rest of the Jimokes!

Barkley recently won the starting job over RS Sophomore QB Aaron Corp. Although my sympathies go out to Aaron, Barkley worked his butt off.

After this week's mock preparations in practice and in today's scrimmage, the Trojans are beginning to focus their attention on the Spartans of San Jose State!

Monday's "Tell the Truth"-themed practice will kick off the opening week of the season. And the Jimokes are reaching the peak of excitement.

After today's mock-game that was extremely close to the real thing, in terms of preparation and activities, we are ready for the big time!

First of all, much apologies for the Jimoke blog absence. I have busy getting some school materials straightened out. (Yeah, I forget we have class, too).

But, today was a busy day for the Jimokes! This afternoon, the Trojans had a mock-game to prepare for the season. To prepare for San Jose St.

The Jimokes arrived at the Coliseum at 7am for the 12:30 kickoff and finally finished their duties near 5:00. It was truly a Jimoke-like game-day.

We had to battle the near 100-degree heat that was shadowed over the Coliseum field, and a few of us got burned somewhat badly. Danny looks more like a tomato than a Jimoke, and my face/neck got destroyed by the sun. Not good.

Tomorrow morning, the Jimokes are coming in to Heritage at 8am to distribute the travel gear for all the players and ourselves! Although an early morning after another, we are excited to get our coveted travel gear! It is something we look forward to each and every year!

Break Time

It's a busy time for a USC Jimoke right now.

After Camp was culminated on Saturday night with the Salute to Troy, the Trojans have yet to practice. The players were given Sunday off, as well as Monday, to get accumulated to their daily class schedule.

Today was the official beginning of the new school year at USC, so it sure was nice not to have 4-5 hours of football in the midst of everything.

But tomorrow is another day. And although it was nice to have a break from the sun, all of us Jimokes were puzzled on what we were supposed to do for the afternoon hours. We were lost souls in the desert.

Tomorrow we get back to the daily grind. And all of us can't wait to get back to Howard Jones! Strange? No, I think not.

Approaching the End

The end of Fall Camp is nearly here. Tomorrow marks the final official day of Fall Camp for the 2009 campaign.

After tireless, 12-hour days for the past two and a half weeks, the Jimokes will soon get a break from football.

But tomorrow is no shortcut of a day. The set day includes a legit Two-a-Day with a 9am practice and a 3pm scrimmage/practice. It's going to be tiring and hot.

Following the busy day, the Trojans are putting on their annual Salute to Troy. With donors and fans their for dinner, the 2009 Trojans will be introduced. At the event, the Jimokes will be working very hard, and working behind-the-scenes to help make the even run as smoothly as possible!

Some of the Jimokes stayed at Heritage to nap in our locker room, while others ventured out to their residences.

Either way, these couple hours that we have off are taken very seriously and no minute is wasted. Time is valuable during Fall Camp.

A Lot to Catch Up On

The past two days have been pretty busy for the Jimokes. Monday morning, we moved out of Flour tower--where the entire team stayed for ten nights--and into our new housing for the upcoming school year.

The morning was also declared off for the Trojans for the moving process, leaving us to deal with only one practice in the evening.

Monday night was the second intrasquad scrimmage of Fall Camp--and the first at the Coliseum. The coaching staff clearly referred to it as another rendition of "Monday Night Football." With the lights on, the sky dark, and the players rocking, it was a fun atmosphere to be a part of.

As far as today went, Coach Carroll was generous enough to give the Trojans another morning off--the third in as many days. With that morning off, most of the Jimokes finished unpacking and settling in to their new residences.

The Trojans then suited up for a half pads practice this afternoon. After a nearly 48 hour break from the practice field, Howard Jones was able to rest up, get water, and avoid the onslaught of cleats that repeatedly give the field a beating.

Tomorrow we will get back in the usual Two-A-Day format with a morning walk-thru at 9am and a full pads practice at 3pm. Get ready!

Move-Out Day

Tonight marks the final day of the team residing in Flour Tower. After ten nights in the residence hall, the Jimokes are moving out to their respective housing units for the upcoming school year tomorrow morning.

Since move-out time is at 8am, the Trojans have another morning off tomorrow. The coaches have given the Jimokes and players plenty of time to move into their new place.

Tomorrow will also consist of a couple more important events:

The Trojans will take their team picture tomorrow afternoon. But there will also be an intrasquad scrimmage at the Coliseum tomorrow night at 7:30pm!

The Jimokes are very excited about both, especially the scrimmage. It will be our first time back on the Coliseum field since last Spring.

It is an open scrimmage, so everyone is allowed--and encouraged--to come out and support the Trojans tomorrow night!

Good Day for the Jimokes

This morning was a much needed break for the Jimokes.

In last night's team meeting, Coach Carroll announced that the Trojans had the morning off, leaving only one practice for the day!

This led the Jimokes to participate in a wide range of activities, including taking trips back home and sleeping in. The morning off was very well deserved and a delight for the Jimokes.

The afternoon practice went smoothly; not much to talk about.

In other news, Coach Carroll called Danny by name today. It was pretty sweet! Good for you, Danny!

Lost Dog

Today was a day that these twelve Jimokes may remember for a long time.

When coming out to set-up for the early morning walk-thru this morning, a small Chihuahua-type dog starting sprinting down the sideline of Howard Jones field.

With a major effort by Mike Nebgen and myself, we trapped the lost dog in a corner of a shed. However, the journey was just beginning with the newly named Pepper.

The dog--who we believe is lost from its owners--was so scared and startled that she was shaking uncontrollably. And as a dog lover myself, I was sad to see it.

On top of that, when attempting to pet her, she snapped back. Ferociously.

After calling Animal Control and USC's DPS in the middle of the day, there was still no resolution with the recovery of this dog.

And when the Jimokes came back out for this afternoon's practice, she was still there. After the practice/scrimmage, we met with the dog one more time to see what would come out of it. But to no avail.

Fortunately, we ended the night with a final call to Animal Control who was on their way to recover the lost puppy.

It was clearly not what the Jimokes expected to deal with when waking up this morning. No, it wasn't.

End of Scrimmage

The Jimokes went through their first scrimmage of Fall Camp this afternoon. Howard Jones was rocking, with plenty of fans coming out to support the Jimokes--Oh, I mean the Trojans.

Not only were the fans out, but the stadium music was being blasted across the field to get the players acclimated to actual game-time effects.

The scrimmage was an easy one for the Jimokes to handle. And somewhat of a break for some. Aside from a few Jimokes who had rather important duties, the others didn't have to do the usual "run-and-gun" practice style that make us work as hard as we do.

We are already gearing up for another big day tomorrow: Two-A-Day!

After the first Two-A-Day in Fall Camp yesterday, the Jimokes and Trojans are back at it again with a walk-thru this morning. We are heading out for some breakfast now and then back on to Howard Jones.

Later this afternoon will be a full-pads scrimmage on Howard Jones. We are very excited about it!

The Fifth Day

The Jimokes had another successful day on Howard Jones. It was an unbelievably hot day, that caused us to start sweating the minute we walked out to the field.

In other news, as I stated earlier, the new Jimokes are really catching on fast with how the practices go. It's great to see them pick it up so quickly!

The newcomers are even getting some "love" from the coaches.

Kory has now been nicknamed "Juice Man," thanks to LB coach Ken Norton, Jr. In yesterday's practice, Coach Norton was jumping around and pumping up his players, saying, "Who's got the juice?" In this morning's walk-thru, Kory walked up to Coach Norton and mysteriously said, "I got the juice, Coach." Later on in the walk-thru, he was servicing the coaches with Gatorade and handed one to Coach Norton. Norton replied with a casual, "Thanks, Juice Man." We all had a good laugh and enjoyed Kory's story.

We are planning on getting to bed early tonight--or at least at a decent time--due to tomorrow's big day.

Tomorrow is the first official Two-A-Day format of practice. While the first few days of Fall Camp have consisted of two practices, one of those two has been technically referred to as a Walk-thru, where balls are not permitted and coaching cannot last more than an hour.

Tomorrow will consist of a 9am practice and a 4pm practice! Let's get ready and hope to see you out there!

An Uneventful Day

Another day of practices has been completed for the Jimokes. And nothing extraordinary happened.

The Jimokes were everywhere they needed to be at every time.

As the Fall Camp continues to roll on, the Jimokes are really improving and getting the hang of it. Including the new guys. We are really molding into one solid group!

During these grueling Camp days, the Jimokes have some extra time to think of smarter ways to improve on the field.

And off the field.

In between the two practices, and having many minutes of downtime, the Jimokes have created yet another interesting way to pass their time. And in this way, they are capitalizing on rest time.

Another Day!

The Jimokes have returned to the dorms after Day 3. Today consisted of another morning walk-thru, and the first padded practice of the new season!

It was another good day for the Jimokes, who are definitely starting to feel somewhat tired of the longing Fall Camp. But nearly two weeks still remain, so we got to keep on going!

It's going to be fun!

In other news...

1st year Jimoke Danny Palkovic had a near death experience on the practice field in the afternoon practice. During a Special Teams drill, Danny went to place a football at the line and in the middle of the play. However, as he hustled across the field, a fairly large man in Taylor Mays railed Danny to the ground. "It was devastating," says Danny.

It was clearly a moment to remember in Jimoke history, especially in Danny's eyes. Hang in there!

Day 2 in the Books!

The Jimokes just returned back in our residence hall after another day full of football duties.

The walk-thru in the morning to the nearly three hour practice in the afternoon proved to be another test for the preparation and readiness for us. And we came through!

The equipment was ready when it needed to be ready and all the Jimokes were flying across the fields. It's a rush!

Day 1 of Fall Camp 2009 is officially over.

After a near three hour first pracitce this afternoon and a nice dinner at Galen Cafeteria, the Jimokes just settled back into Flour Tower for the evening.

The practice was long and under a scorcher, but ran very successfully thanks to the leadership of head man Adam Kossoff.

The players were anxious to get on the field to play with footballs, as were the Jimokes!

With a couple hours to ourselves tonight, we are resting up and gearing up for another day tomorrow!

Mid-Day

It's just after 2:00 in the afternoon, and the Trojans/Jimokes are resting in between practices. This morning was the team's Walk-Thru No. 1, while 4pm will be Practice No. 1.

The morning walk-thru was pretty uneventful, which is what we like!

After the practice, some of the Jimokes got up in the film lifts and reattached some wind flags on top of the goalposts; something that caused some to suspend their fear of heights.

The upcoming practice will be over two and a half hours, so we will be back later tonight to update on the first day of practice!

Jimokes Settling In

With the rest of the day off, the Jimokes are free to do anything they want. So, of course, we spend our time playing around. Even video games.

In the midst of an intense NCAA Football 10 Tournament, the Jimokes are ready for football in all aspects of the game!

Jimokes Have Arrived at USC!

Today marks the beginning of the 2009 USC Football campaign!

The Trojans, including us Jimokes, have moved into the on-campus Flour Tower to prepare for the upcoming season!

The next ten days will revolve only around football, and the Jimokes are ready! Today is more of a lax day, as we spent yesterday and most of this morning preparing everything on the field for camp. For us, it's all about the preparation!

Tomorrow morning will be the first official walk-thru at 11am, and the first practice at 4pm.

We hope you can venture your way down to Howard Jones field and watch the Trojans gear up for yet another season!

Because the summer camps these past few weeks, the Jimokes have been able to rekindle their friendships with each other. With that, a lot of blog talk has been going on.

In light of Nike's new football campaign, with the phrase, "Leave Nothing," we have our new motto...

We feel it works so well. So, today we move away last year's "We Gotta Go..." and bring in "Leave Nothing."

Trojan Football Summer Camps -- Jimokes Style!

The month of June is a busy one for the SC coaching staff, to say the least.

The string of Win Forever Summer camps for children, high school stars, and oldies all take place in June. This also means long days for the Jimokes.

Thursday will end the final day of the 2009 summer camps with the 2nd of two days of the Rising Stars camp.

The camps that have already taken place require sophisticated and strict time tables. Something us Jimokes need to be looking out for. The days consist of setting up a number of athletic fields on the USC campus, the Cromwell Track & Field and Baseball's Dedeaux Stadiums included. In addition to setting the fields up, a number of eqiupment changes are needed.

One cool thing the Jimokes get to do: Not only are we the student managers who deal with the equipment, but the summer camps allow us to test out our coaching styles and even referee games. It's a real joy to be even more involved in the USC Football program, and so rewarding to coach the youngsters.

While the days begin at 6:30am and don't end until 6:30pm, and the hot sun boils over you all day, the summer camps are another way for the Jimokes to be involved with USC Football. And it's great!

Well, it's summer in the USC world...and in the Jimoke Blog world.

Not much is going on around the USC program worth blogging about, but I thought I'd give you a check-up on us.

The USC Trojans, after a few weeks off after the semester ended, have been back on campus for the past few weeks. They are now well into their strict workout regiments, including 6am team-wide runs.

The summer workout program will go through July and right into August for the start of Fall Camp. Something we are all anxiously awaiting!

Although it is somewhat belated, it is still deserving.

Joe Gibson, Jimoke during the 2008 season, successfully walked-on to the USC Football team for next season!

Gibson, now a wide receiver (No. 84), was a high school defensive back and trained since the Rose Bowl to earn a spot.

My highest praises of congratulations go out to him!

One Week Remains

On Saturday, the 2009 Spring Football session will culminate with the Trojan Huddle. There are 20,000 expected at the Coliseum. Ben Malcolmson from USCRipsIt has a good preview of what you need to be aware of if you are expected to come.

With only two more "regular" practices left, I hope there are some of you who have a chance to come check out your Trojans for the last time until August.

Each practice is open to the public and we expect lots to be there!

And in other news....

With only a few practices left, that also means time is running out for the try-out period for the new Jimokes.

We look to get a good, new crew! And, once the crew is set, we will be sure to let everyone know!

Spring Football.

It is flying by at USC. It's nearing to the end; I just wish it was the season already, with the five stragith practices and Game Days at the Coliseum. Oh, what a life!

Today is our 10th of 15 Spring practices, culminating in an intrasquad Spring Game at the Coliseum next Saturday, April 25.

The COMPETITION is heating up and every position is struggling with depth chart rankings.

We are already 1/3 done with Spring Ball for the 2009-10 season! I can't believe it! It has sure flown by.

The competition at every position is heating up, especially the defense.

The QB Battle continues to wage on with Aaron Corp, Mitch Mustain, Matt Barkely, and Garrett Green battling for the job. It's fierce out there, and they are going at it every minute!

Our new Jimokes (or Managers; they haven't been initiated to that name yet) are doing well and they are also competing every minute on the field.

Looks like we will have a pretty good squad for next season!

And Adam Kossoff, our new head manager, is proving to provide effective leadership out there for everyone! Nice job!

AND, by the way. Be sure to come out to our practices! Of the remaining 10, 9 are open to the public! Today's is at 4.

Spring Ball is Under Way

On Saturday, the Trojans and Jimokes were back on the field for official Spring practices.

On a nice, hot, 88 degree Saturday, nothing was better. The players were pumped, coaches loud, and us Jimokes running faster than usual with our fresh legs.

The loot of Jimokes for the Spring is looking good. We will see how they perform for the rest of the Spring!

Come out on Tuesday and support the Trojans!

Adam Kossoff Named Head Manager!

The Junior from New Jersey, Adam Kossoff, was recently named the Head Manager for the 2009-2010 Season.

He's the head honcho, the head Jimoke, if you will.

His duties as a USC Jimoke will expand tenfold as he will man our 12 man squad next season. And that will last from today until next year when another Jimoke will be selected as head.

Congratulations, Adam! Don't have too much fun in Jersey!

Thanks for bearing with USC Football as the offseason has been going on! Fresh off a Rose Bowl win, the football team has been working on their conditioning almost every day since the Rose Bowl.

Hello Readers,

As you know, I am a student manager for the USC Football Team. After a wonderful season that just finished, with another Rose Bowl victory, some of our managers are leaving us. We need some new managers for next season, and we would love to hear from you guys.

ROSE BOWL CHAMPS!

After an impressive Rose Bowl victory over the Big-10 champions Penn State, the USC Trojan Football Team became Rose Bowl champs once again! Congrats to everyone associated with the team!

It's been a long time...

It has been a long time since I have been blogging for USC Football. During bowl week, we did not have any access to the internet, and this past week, I didn't have a computer to get to, so there was no one to blog.

Bowl Preparation

Yesterday, the Trojans began prepping for Penn State. Today, we are back on the field for day 2 of 5. We will be practicing up until, and including, the 22nd.

With a practically empty USC campus, it can be pretty boring here for the Jimokes. While the team gets to stay at a Santa Monica hotel for the week, we have to stay in the abandoned college campus.

We are also trying to salvage any Christmas spirit we have. Not being home or with our families during this time of year can be pretty hard.

Bowl Practices

Yesterday and today, the football team had practice after a week off for studying for finals. We will also have tomorrow off, including Mnday - Wednesday for more exam days. That means, we won't be back practicing until Thursday.

While I have completed my exams, most of the team, including the JImokes, still have finals to complete next week. We wish everyone good luck!

After a crazy and hectic week of finals, the Jimokes blog will be back up and running. My apologies go out to the readers that I haven't been up to date in the past week.

This week has been FINALS week at USC, and I have been swamped with studying.

Friday, however, we will be back on regular schedule and the blogging will resume, right when the Trojans begin to practice for Penn State!

Manager Game

Last night, the USC and UCLA student managers had their annual football game.

With a very defensive game, the USC Jimokes outlasted UCLA 14-7!

Props go out to Joe Gibson, who dominated the game for USC. Scoring both touchdowns, he also had two goal line stop (including a sack on the final play of the game), to give the Jimokes the victory! Eloy Ledesma had one interception, while head Jimoke Matt Burkhard grabbed two!

Great blocking all around (Daniel Mai, Eric Ziskin, David Toper) and satisfactory quarterback play from Brent Cochran was enough to give us the win!

Beat the Bruins!

Today, the Jimokes went to the Rose Bowl and set up the locker room in preparation for tomorrow's Crosstown Showdown!

The early start allows us to have more time to have everything perfect tomorrow!
